Practical Information
RELIGION
Latvia is a predominantly Protestant (Lutheran)
country with Roman Catholics located in the east of
the country. There are also a Russian Orthodox faith.
At the end of 2000, a total of 1058 religious
communities were registered. Of these, 435 are
Protestant (Lutherans 302, Adventists 46, Baptists
87), 247 are Catholic, 114 are Orthodox, 66
old-believers). There are also 7 Jewish communities.
A range of different religious organisations, from
Salvator Army to Krisnaites, can be found in Latvia.
