Practical Information

PASSPORT/ VISA

Regulations and requirements may be subject to change at short notice. You are advised to contact the appropriate diplomatic or consular authority before planning your travel.

Passport:
Required by all.

Visas:
In order to reside up to 90 days in Latvia, visas are not required from citizens of Andora, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech, Denmark,Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, USA, Vatican and holders of UN and EC passports.

Visas are issued by the diplomatic representations or Consulates abroad and by the Department of Citizenship and Migration Affairs on the state border (at the Riga International airport). The citizens of the countries mentioned below are allowed to obtain entrance visas without a presentation of an official invitation form (certified by the Department of Citizenship and Migration Affairs) in Latvian Diplomatic representation or Consulates and for the period of 10 days at the Riga International airport: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco,New Zealand, Panama, Paraguay, San Marino, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Uruguay, Venezuela.

The citizens of other countries are required to obtain entrance visas at the diplomatic representations or Consulates abroad presenting an official invitation form (certified by the Department of Citizenship and Migration Affairs).

The governments of the Baltic countries have signed an agreement stating that an entry visa (also a transit visa) and a residence permit issued by one Baltic state has an equal power on the territory of all three Baltic states - Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania. This agreement applies only to the citizens of the following countries: Andora, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Germany,Irelans, Island, Italy, Israel, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, USA, Vatican.

Note: Visa regulations are liable to change. It is advisable to contact the Latvian Embassy at least three weeks before traveling for the latest information.

Maximum validity:
1 year.

Application goes to:
Embassy (or Consular Section of Embassy)

Application requirements:

  1. Valid passport (validity must exceed the validity of the requested visa by at least two months)
  2. 1 completed application form
  3. Certified invitation form (if necessary)
  4. 1 passport-size photo
