The reasons for traveling to Latvia are numerous

Latvia is close to the key markets of Europe. It is a one to three hour flight from all major capital cities in Europe. International airline carriers fly daily to Riga, which is fast becoming a hub between Eastern and Western Europe. The international airlines report a 20% increase in inbound tourism! With regard to road transportation, the Via Baltica Touristica project covers all the tourist traffic connections between Finland and Germany east of the Baltic Sea.

Training is being provided throughout the Via Baltica route with regard to excellent customer service in hotels, restaurants, and shops. There are hotels of international standard located throughout the capital city. Other accommodation includes Bed & Breakfast, country holidays, health resorts, youth hostels and camping facilities.

Good quality food is available not only from hotel restaurants, but also from numerous of privately owned restaurants and cafes. They provide both national and international cuisine. All the restaurants serve environmentally sound products, as Latvian farmers grow their crops without using pesticides.

The international business community is steadily growing. More international world-famous companies are opening their offices and shops in Riga. Visitors will be delighted to see many exclusive shops and modern offices in the city. Communication is made easy as many of the local people speak English, German and Russian. International telephone and telefax services are available in hotels and at the main post office in Riga. Money can easily be changed at numerous exchange bureaus, hotels and banks. International credit cards are accepted at all major hotels and restaurants.

Latvia's travel product corresponds perfectly to what today's traveler really wants - a clean environment, rich culture with old traditions, unique architecture and the comfort of modern facilities. The country also has much to offer in active tourism for those with the enthusiasm and the means to enjoy it! Hunting, fishing, bird watching, bicycling, canoeing, horseback riding, boating, wind-surfing and trekking are just a few of the activities available to visitors.

Some of the cultural events include the Song and Dance Festival, the Medieval Music Festival, the New Music Festival, and the Opera Festival.

Local handicrafts are a collector's delight. Amber jewellery, excellent woodwork, Latgale pottery with the authentic design of the pre-Christian period and traditional flax tablecloths are available throughout the country.

We invite you to visit the regions of Latvia - Vidzeme, Kurzeme, Latgale, and Zemgale - the homes of our ancestors for many generations. There are many architectural monuments, churches, castles and homesteads. The environment with which we are blessed is also our heritage and a source of pride.

We invite you to wander through Riga, an ancient city of Hansa and a pearl of Art Nouveau architecture. Inspect its museums, stroll through various art galleries, listen to the world-famous Dome organ, enjoy theatres and concert halls, visit the health resort of Jurmala and take pleasure in the tranquillity of a particularly beautiful area - Sigulda!
